Mass from right ventral neck-cranial thorax: fibrosarcoma intermediate-high grade, invasion and virtual effacement of salivary glandular tissue with interspersed multiculated/polycystic aeas and focal hemotoma formation. VETERINARY NOTE: This particular kind of cancer has not been considered heritable in any species, rats included. This is not contraindicative for breeding. Euthanized for tumor regrowth.

On necropsy, 90% of lung tissue was scarred and infiltrated with abscesses. Gram stains showed negative for any causative agents except for mycoplasma pulmosis. No cancer cells were found excepting those in the mammary tissue, which was being removed when lungs failed under anesthesia.

Cause of death: Lymphoma on heart

Gross necropsy revealed pristine body condition, lungs perfect, organs in good order except for obesity. Heart looked good, but there was a 3mm tumor resting on top of (not part of) the heart. Tumor was diagnosed as lymphoma, which is an immune system accident. Lymphoma caused high blood pressure and hypercalcemia, leading to sudden death. This type of tumor is not known to be genetic, but the tendacy to develop them may run in a line.
