Pyewacket started showing signs of the respiratory issues experienced by his father, uncles, and brothers, and progressed quickly to respiratory failure. Necropsy showed severely abscessed lungs, one lung with no usable tissue and the other with less than half still functional. Culture didn't show anything significant, and histopathology supported respiratory failure. A small node was also seen on the liver.

Gross necropsy revealed large ventral mammary tumor, severely abcessed lungs, and a serious uterine infection which was likely caused by the mammary tumor pulling her vulva open and letting infectious agents in. Either the lung or uterine infection could have caused the general sepsis that killed her.
