She likes to investigate new things, and is very adventurous and playful. We are enjoying having her around and watching her with her sisters and buddies - it will be fun to watch her as she continues to develop! Due to being extremely high strung, Miaka will remain here as a pet only. While she can be sweet, she is too nervous and easily spooked for us to consider using her as a potential breeder for our lines. Miaka was found dead on the bottom of her cage with no apparent reason. She had been fine the day before, there were no signs of trauma or other obvious causes. She died on a weekend, so is being preserved for necropsy first thing Monday morning. Results will be posted when they are available to us. Nothing significant was found on gross necropsy, including no visible lesions in the lungs. Histopathology showed multifocal nodular proliferations of lymphocytes and plasma cells surrounding many of the bronchii on microscopic examination. The veterinarian performing the histopath diagnosed that as Multifocal Nodular Lymphoplasmacytic peribronchitis. This suggested mycoplasma pneumonia as potential cause of death.
